One of my favorite quotes I have seen floating around online is this:
It reminds me of the account in the New Testament :
Matthew 15:36 “And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled…”
Jesus gave thanks and there was enough. It’s so easy to get on blogs and Pinterest and Facebook and see what others display in perfectly lit and styled photos and start feeling very discouraged about the situation in our own homes.
But what if we gave thanks for what we had in our homes, right now, in it’s current condition? Would it make it enough?
*What if we gave thanks that we have our children, to ourselves, under our roofs, for one-fifth of our lives, a short 18 years?
*What if we gave thanks for the monotonous tasks like folding laundry, dishes, showering, or weeding because they can give us precious quiet time to think and come up with insights and solutions that usually don’t come in the chaos of life?
*What if we took time to serve someone in more humble living conditions than our own? Would we we have more gratitude for our own situation?
*What if we turned off the computer, opened the curtains, cleaned the kitchen, lit a candle, and played some beautiful music? Would the feeling in our home and about our home change?
It seems some are given 700 loaves and 200 fishes and a custom home, body, and perfect family to boot, but if we follow the Savior’s example in giving thanks, we will find that He is enough to fill us and our homes.
