DISCOVERY GUIDE

1) Ardeth Kapp says “The adversary would, if possible, like to keep us busily engaged in a multitude of things—even good things—that would distract us from the few things that make all the difference.” What would you include on a list of things that make “all the difference”? What non-essential things would you like to eliminate from your life? (p.9)

2) “We did not come to this earth to gain our worth; we brought it with us.” (p. 16) What is meant by worth in this statement? What is the difference between worth and worthiness?

3) The author relates an experience she had as a child with a flock of turkeys. In what ways do we sometimes behave like turkeys? What are three lessons you learned from the story of the turkeys?

4) The author believes “destructive conversation” can be life-threatening and competition is often the culprit. When is a time that refraining from criticism has helped one of your relationships? When might criticism be necessary or appropriate? What can we do to foster unity and encourage more genuine expressions of love?

5) “Hope is much more than wishful thinking” (p.80). Define hope and share how it is reflected in your life.

6) The author shares an important lesson she learned from a second grade student: We are each “different but not dumb.” Share something you have learned from someone else.

7) Pair up with another member of your Book Club and go through the exercise described on p. 135-136.  After completing all 5 steps, describe to the group the feelings you experienced. How can you implement these practices in your day-to-day interactions?

8) “Today, more than any other time in history, the world needs women who know the Lord and know themselves—women who will take a stand.” What difference does the influence of righteous women make in your home, office, or community? In what ways are women expected to take a stand? How does a knowledge of the character of God and an understanding of your true identity empower you to “take a stand”?
